Affordable cabinet Painting in Cleveland

Replacing kitchen cabinets is one of the largest expenses in a kitchen renovation, but replacement isn’t always necessary. If your cabinet boxes are structurally sound and the layout still works for your family, professional cabinet refinishing in Cleveland can give your kitchen or bathroom an updated appearance without the cost, disruption or waste of a full replacement.

At Trucoat Painting Plus, cabinet painting is treated as a specialized finishing process, not simply another interior painting project. As a third generation painting company serving Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and communities throughout Northeast Ohio, we’ve built our approach around careful preparation, durable coatings and clear communication from start to finish.

Preparation & Painting

We thoroughly prepare surfaces by cleaning, repairing, and priming them for a flawless finish. Our professional painters use high quality paints from Sherwin Williams to ensure smooth, even, and long lasting results.

Final Inspection

Once the painting is complete, we conduct a final walkthrough to ensure every detail meets your expectations. We leave your home spotless, so you can enjoy a beautifully transformed space without the hassle.

our edge over the options

Cabinet painting involves much more than applying paint. Kitchen cabinets experience constant contact from hands, moisture, grease, cooking residue, cleaning products and daily use. Durable results begin long before the first coat is applied.

Every project starts with a detailed evaluation of cabinet construction and finish condition. Our local cabinet painters inspect cabinet doors, cabinet boxes, hinges, drawer fronts and existing coatings to determine the proper preparation methods.

Preparation includes professional degreasing to remove years of cooking residue, followed by sanding or mechanical surface abrasion where appropriate. This creates the proper surface profile for a high performance bonding primer to adhere.

Depending on the cabinet material, we use specialized primers designed for wood, MDF or laminate surfaces. After priming, multiple coats of industrial cabinet coatings are applied using an HVLP spray system, producing a smooth, factory like finish without the brush marks commonly associated with brush and roller applications.

For many projects, we recommend premium products from Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore, including durable low VOC coating systems formulated specifically for cabinetry. Where appropriate, higher performance systems such as catalyzed coatings or conversion varnish may be recommended for maximum durability.

Before reinstallation, every door and drawer front is inspected to ensure consistent sheen, complete coverage and proper curing.

Cabinet Problems We Refinish in Cleveland

Not every cabinet needs replacement. Professional refinishing can address many cosmetic issues, including:

  • Yellowed white cabinets.
  • Worn stained finishes.
  • Minor scratches.
  • Small chips.
  • Faded paint.
  • Outdated oak finishes.
  • Water stains (when structural damage has not occurred).
  • Glossy builder grade finishes.

During the initial inspection, we’ll determine whether cabinet refinishing is the right solution or whether replacement would provide better long term value.

Popular Cabinet Colors in Cleveland, Ohio

Cabinet color trends continue to evolve, but most homeowners are looking for timeless finishes that complement their home’s architecture and increase resale appeal. Some of the most requested cabinet colors in Cleveland include:

  • Warm White.
  • Soft White.
  • Alabaster.
  • Light Greige.
  • Accessible Beige.
  • Sage Green.
  • Deep Navy.
  • Matte Black for kitchen islands.

In Cleveland, Ohio, the worst kitchen cabinet colors include yellow or orange toned oak, cool gray, stark white, dark espresso and bold colors like red, purple or lime green. These finishes often make kitchens look dated, reduce natural warmth or create a darker appearance in spaces with limited daylight.

Cabinet Painting Cost in Cleveland, OH

Professional cabinet painting is a cost effective alternative to replacing your existing cabinets. The final investment depends on the size of your kitchen, the number of cabinet doors and drawers, the condition of the cabinets and the amount of preparation required.

Typical cabinet painting costs in the Cleveland area include:

  • Small kitchens: $2,500–$3,500
  • Medium sized kitchens: $3,500–$5,000
  • Large kitchens: $5,000–$7,000

Every project is different, so the best way to receive an accurate cabinet painting quote is through an in home estimate. We’ll inspect your cabinets, discuss your goals, provide a free color consultation and prepare a detailed quote based on the specific scope of work, with no upfront deposit required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Paint Unfinished Cabinets?
Clean the wood, sand lightly, apply a wood primer, then paint with two thin coats of cabinet grade paint.
Sand the surface, apply a wood conditioner, brush or wipe on stain, remove excess, and seal with a clear protective topcoat.
Paint one side first and let it dry fully. Flip the door, then paint the other side. Use drying racks or screws in hinge holes to prevent sticking.
Light sanding is recommended, but you can skip it by using a liquid deglosser or a bonding primer for proper adhesion.
Yes, chalk paint can be used on cabinets, but it must be sealed with wax or a clear topcoat to protect against moisture and wear.

Rick Jr. and his crew did an amazing job with the exterior of our home. They pressure washed the entire home and shed, repaired all needed wood surfaces, replaced any damaged wood, and painted all surfaces. They were professional, on time, and very efficient! Rick was aware of an upcoming event that we are hosting and was sure to have all work done before the deadline that we had discussed.

Unfortunately, I have to edit my review and remove my 5 stars. I had a room painted this past winter. 5 star service AT THAT TIME from the estimate and the work that was completed in a clean and timely manner. Fast forward to the last month and the extreme lack of customer service and concern. I called in June to schedule the second half of my proposal. This paint job was for a different room in the house. Ricky took my name and scheduled a date for this room to be done (7/13/26). I called 7/8/26 to confirm my date and see if they could do an estimate for another room while they were there. He told me word for word "we will be there, we won't forget about you" even though at that time he didn't confirm my name or address again. Today, at my scheduled date, they didn't show up. I called Ricky at 11am to see what was going on as I was at work and was paying someone to be at my house all day while they painted. He literally answered and said he was waiting for my call because I was on his board to do today but he didn't have my number to reach out to me (although they would've had all my info from the previous job). He never apologized just kept saying "this day blew up" and "I fell through the cracks". He had excuse after excuse. I understand a business being busy but I didn't expect or ask to be squeezed or worked in asap. He offered me this 7/13 date when we spoke in June. Would highly recommend not wasting your time with this company. Original review: I appreciated the timeliness of getting scheduled for a free estimate! Aiden and Dakota were kind and respectful at my house while painting! Good experience all around.
