How to Apply Sherwin Williams Weathershield Paint?

Preparation & application are key to achieving the best results with Sherwin Williams Weathershield Paint. Follow these steps for a flawless finish:

Surface Preparation

  1. Clean the Surface: Remove dirt, mildew, and any peeling paint. Use a power washer for concrete steps or a scrub brush for wooden porches.
  2. Sand Rough Areas: Smooth out any rough spots to ensure even application.
  3. Dry Completely: Ensure the exterior is dry before applying paint to prevent moisture from getting trapped.

Priming the Surface

Although Sherwin Williams Weathershield Paint has excellent adhesion, a primer can enhance its performance and longevity. Apply a high-quality primer designed for outdoor use, especially on older or porous surfaces.

Applying the Paint

Choose the Right Tools: Use a high-quality brush or roller for even application. For larger areas, consider using a sprayer.

  • Apply Thin Coats: Apply two thin coats rather than one thick coat to avoid drips and ensure proper drying.
  • Follow the Manufacturer’s Instructions: Refer to the product label for recommended drying times and application techniques.

Optimal Weather Conditions

Paint during mild weather conditions—avoid extreme heat, cold, or rain. Perfect temperatures range between 50°F and 90°F.

Maintenance Tips for Long-Lasting Results

To maximize the lifespan of your painted porches and steps, follow these maintenance tips:

  • Clean Regularly: Sweep away debris and wash the surface periodically to prevent buildup.
  • Inspect for Damage: Check for chips, cracks, or peeling and touch up as needed.

Dudes came in, were friendly, polite and courteous. Rick, Dakota, Isaac, and Brandon were all terrific and the house looks so much better. They even saw a scuffed up spot on a wall they weren’t even painting and fixed it up and painted it up. Top notch.

Trucoat Painting did an outstanding job on my 180 year old farmhouse project in Olmsted Falls. They were trustworthy, focused, and professional throughout the entire process. It wasn’t an easy project, which included the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, hallway, and several closets floor to ceiling. The original lath and plaster walls were covered in multiple layers of paint and wallpaper from different eras, the bathroom walls are covered in rough cedar shake, and all the hardware is old school original to the 1800’s Their preparation work and attention to detail was exceptional! They carefully masked everything and skim coated the walls, which transformed the old uneven, worn surfaces into smooth paintable finishes. They also sanded, filled, primed, and painted the 70-year-old kitchen cabinets and kept track of all the old and fragile hardware. The cabinets now look like they were just installed yesterday. The final result in this old Olmsted Falls farmhouse seriously exceeded my expectations in both the quality and the short amount of time it took. Trucoat Painting clearly takes pride in their work, and I would highly recommend Trucoat Painting to anyone. I will be using them again in the future. Can’t wait for the next project!
